Nothing if not sure-footed

Sometimes Kristina Keneally's sense of propriety seems entirely self-centred. Early in her premiership, a refusal to apologise for failing to declare free airline upgrades for her children during a trip to the US in 2008 provided a rare insight into the woman behind the hairstyle.Yesterday, she happily spruiked spending $31 million of government funds in front of a Labor banner without batting an eyelid. In Randwick with the Police Minister, Michael Daley, helping Paul Pearce try to retain his increasingly marginal seat of Coogee,Ms Keneally announced the $31 million funding to rebuild the Prince of Wales Hospital's cancer and blood disorder centre. It was not an election promise but rather a government announcement complete with a call for tenders to go out this week. There was no sign of the usual NSW government backdroprolled out for such occasions. Instead, minions unfurled abanner replete with Keneally logo and the web address for NSW Labor. Asked if it was appropriate, the Premier replied primly and simply: "Sure."
